First mini-review: ‘Devil’.

The first review I’m going to do as part of my new series is ‘Devil’, a film by noted twist-loving-if-slightly-crap-but-sometimes-awesome director, M. Night Shyamalan. This film is the one that inspired me to do the series, as I went into it thinking it would be crap, but came out pleasantly surprised. I do mention the twist, but not what it is. Pros and cons of being your own boss.

Let’s talk about pay…

I’m currently trying to think up a pay table for a client that I’ve been working with for a while. While it’s regarding my work, it’s not just about me – it’s for any clients that come to them asking for copy, which I will then write. I’m finding it hard to do, as until recently, I wasn’t really sure of what my value was – and no idea at all as to what companies would pay other companies, even if I was the one writing. What do you find hardest to write?

Since setting up as a copywriter a few months back, I’ve had a wide variety of pieces to write. From website copy to inbound marketing, I’ve covered more than I thought I would, and definitely touched on a few subjects that I’ve had to teach myself about before putting fingers to keyboard.

Some of these were long, some short. Some were technical, (try explaining Google’s PageRank system in layman’s terms…) some were simple, (Twitter Glossary for beginners) and most somewhere between the two. Yet over and over, I find myself tripping up on the same thing. It’s not any particular subject, it’s not writing in a certain style – in fact, it’s something that most people I’ve asked are surprised about. Continue reading
